The Institute of Urban and Regional Planning
The Institute of Urban and Regional Planning (ISR) at the TU Berlin is part of the Faculty VI Planning Building Environment and is structured into seven chairs. The ISR Information and Project Centre supports research and teaching. The central point of contact is the Institute’s main secretariat.
The ISR is extensively involved in teaching in the Urban and Regional Planning degree programmes (Bachelor and Master) as well as in Urban Design (Master). Both Master’s degree programmes are aimed at German and international students.

The current topics of urban and regional planning are considered in a local as well as a global context, the cultural heritage and important historical developments are also a part of the degree programme. Berlin as a location is used in various ways for teaching and research at the ISR. In terms of history, society, architecture and economics, the city offers an interesting field of research, as well as special experiences with its unique identity. Furthermore, the teaching offered by the seven chairs is complemented with Regional Planning in International Context, Urban Sociology, Ecology and Landscape Planning. The degree brings together technical, social, economic, legal and planning principles, which reflect the multidimensional nature of planning tasks in practice. The degree is a preparation for working in various fields according to individual specialisation (administration, planning agency and research in a local, national and international context).
